What are implant-retained prosthesis and when should you choose them?

Implant-retained prosthesis technology (implant bridge) is the best treatment solution when it is necessary to replace an entire dental arch or a larger gap in the gum (4-8 missing teeth).

The main advantage of this technology is that each tooth does not need its own implant. The crowns are connected to each other and, depending on the size of the gap, are supported by a stable base of two or more implants. Only two to four new tooth roots are needed to securely support a complete denture.

Replacing an entire dental arch or several teeth with a prosthesis provides the patient with comfort and a sense of security, because with an implant there is no risk of the prosthesis suddenly becoming loose or shifting out of place. The result is very natural and similar to real teeth.

This technology also allows for the replacement of missing gums, which are placed together with the dental arch. Implants placed in the jaw also help prevent further bone loss. This helps maintain the natural shape of the face and occlusion.

The main advantages of implant-retained prosthesis technology

  • Natural and aesthetic result
  • Comfort in any situation – the prosthesis will not come loose unexpectedly
  • The natural facial shape is maintained – the implant prevents further bone loss
  • Allows for gum replacement – the artificial gum is placed together with the dental arch

Fitting of full dentures

After a consultation and the preparation of a detailed treatment plan, the new tooth roots are placed in the jawbone, usually during one treatment session. Implant placement is performed either under general anesthesia or local anesthesia. The most suitable choice for the patient is decided together with the dentist.

Once the implants are placed, the wounds will need a few days to heal. Impressions are then taken for the dental crowns. From the impressions taken, the dental laboratory makes prosthetics that are suitable for the patient and are attached to implants. Depending on the complexity of the work and the patient’s health condition, the entire process can take one to two weeks. At the end of the treatment process, the patient will have a natural smile and firmly fixed teeth.
