REMOTHERAPY, OR TOOTH ENAMEL STRENGTHENING
Remotherapy is the remineralization of tooth enamel, or tooth enamel strengthening/restoration.
Over time, tooth enamel loses some of its mineral composition and becomes thin, loses its protective function, and disintegrates. Thus, tooth demineralization is the main cause of caries and other dental diseases.
What causes tooth enamel to decay and thin?
Changes in the mineral composition of tooth enamel are caused by certain daily habits, such as:
- excessive consumption of carbonated drinks
- lemon water
- exposure of teeth to chemical substances
- reflux disease
- mechanical damage to teeth – for example, opening packages with teeth, “cutting” thread, and similar activities
- poor oral hygiene
- consumption of tetracycline
- excess fluoride
- certain medications, etc.
In what cases do teeth need remotherapy?
Remotherapy is not only intended to treat existing weakening of tooth enamel, but also to prevent the problem. In addition to protecting tooth enamel, the cream used in remotherapy also moisturizes the oral mucosa. The procedure is simple, painless, effective and has a pleasant taste.
Tooth remineralization is recommended:
- In case of tooth erosion, or wear caused by acids
- In case of a wedge-shaped defect on the tooth surface
- In case of tooth sensitivity
- In case of the presence of spots on tooth enamel
- For visible cracks and discoloration of tooth enamel
- Before and after teeth whitening
- Before and after orthodontic treatment and for restoring tooth enamel after braces or aligner treatment
However, if the tooth has already developed primary caries, then ICON technology can be used to treat it. This allows treatment of tooth cavities in their early stages without drilling and anesthesia. Read more about what ICON treatment is and in what cases it is useful.
How is remotherapy performed?
Remotherapy is performed as a course according to the recommendation of an oral hygiene specialist. It is recommended to have your teeth first professionally cleaned by Air flow.
It is also possible to restore/strengthen tooth enamel at home using dental care products specifically designed for remineralization, which an oral hygiene specialist at the dental clinic will personally recommend to you and instruct you on how to perform remineralization therapy at home.
